The 2012 College Showcase Rugby Match
In conjunction with the 2012 NC Spring Ruggerfest ,March 10-11, the NC Youth Rugby Union is pleased to announce there will be a College D1-A rugby match between two of the premier college rugby teams in America: Notre Dame University and Life University,
Marietta, Ga. (recently crowned 2011 Collegiate Rugby 7’s National Champions) on March 10th - 7pm. This match will be an "in season" game. Life University has moved this “home” match to Providence High School in Charlotte.
The purpose of this game is multi faceted:
1. First we will be raising money to help raise scholarship funds for underprivileged players, new team start-up, college scholarships, and national team travel expenses.
2. Second this gives the Charlotte Rugby Community the opportunity for high quality College Rugby action on a Carolina spring Saturday night.
3. Third a college recruitment opportunity for coaches from both universities as well as area university to evaluate players and talk with the NC Spring Ruggerfest tournament coaches
and players.
4. Finally, this is an opportunity for 2012 NC Spring Ruggerfest tournament players to watch players who have played in previous NC Spring Ruggerfest tournaments. Life University has 8 players who are from the Charlotte area.
There will also be a featured 2012 NC Spring Ruggerfest tournament match between Providence High School and a Canadian High School team. Also included, will be a girls 7's (newest Olympic Sport) demonstration match and rookie (elementary age) rugby all played
before the largest crowd gathered to watch a rugby match in the Southeast.
