North Carolina Youth Rugby Union

The North Carolina Youth Rugby Union (NCYRU) was formed in the summer of 2010 by the merger of CYR Board of Directors (Carolina Youth Rugby) and North Carolina High School Board of Directors.

This unification brings a critical mass of expertise that can cohesively grow the general involvement of youth in the great sport of rugby and introduce it as a genuine alternative sport within NC High Schools. To provide direction with specific long and short term strategic goals, objectives and  implementation strategies, NCYRU has developed a 5 year plan. We look forward to implementing this plan and maximizing the development of the “junior” game in North Carolina.

During this time of growth the primary aims of NCYRU are to provide opportunities for all youth to learn and play rugby in a safe and fun environment, honoring the traditions of the game; respect, discipline and leadership.

NCYRU is the umbrella State Based Organization for youth rugby in the state of North Carolina.

We coordinate with all forms of youth rugby providing opportunities for all to participate in the sport.

  • Junior Rugby - Elementary and Middle School Age Group both contact and non-contact rugby (Rookie Rugby)
  • High School Boys - both affiliated High School teams and Community Based Clubs
  • High School Girls

The purposes for which North Carolina Youth Rugby is organized are exclusively charitable and educational within the meaning of Section 501(c) of the Internal Revenue Code.
