Keeping rugby safe is the number one priority of USA Rugby and the International Rugby Board. The IRB has a great resource for the rugby community called IRB Player Welfare: Putting Players First. Also, check out the USA RUGBY MEDICAL SAFETY GUIDE USA RUGBY FORMS CONCUSSION MANAGEMENT GUIDELINES USA Rugby and the International Rugby Board take Player Welfare, especially with regards to head injuries and concussion, very seriously. The IRB has new guidelines for Concussion Management and concrete steps for return to play. It is crucial that all stakeholders in the rugby community read and understand these policies in order to keep the game and players safe. It is important to note that in the United States, certain states have laws that dictate procedures for concussion and reporting concussion. State laws will trump IRB guidelines if there are differing procedures and protocols. THe IRB has developed several Concussion Modules that are designed to keep players and all stakeholders in the game well educated and prepared.
