Union County Lions

Regular Season Spring 2016

About the Union County Lions

Formed in 2002, the Union County Lions Rugby Club is made up of students from Union County High Schools. Currently we have players from Weddington, Porter Ridge, Cuthbertson, Union County Early College, Central Academy, Sun Valley, Monroe, Piedmont and Marvin Ridge. 

The team is a member of the North Carolina Youth Rugby Union and the USA Rugby Union. We compete in the High School  Club Division playing teams from across NC in Charlotte, Matthews, Raleigh, Greensboro, Wilmington
and Chapel Hill. The team represented North Carolina in the 2010 High School South championships in Greenville, SC and  2007 and 2013 Championships in New Orleans, La.. The Lions were the U19 Club State Champions in 2013. 2015 Cherry Blossom HS Division Champions in Washington DC.
 

UC Lions players have traveled with the USA Rugby National Eagles U-20 and U-17 teams to play international matches. Lions have played for the USA Eagles South Region select high school all-star matches and represented the State of North Carolina on tournament champion All-Star U-19 and U-17 teams.

Former UC Lion players have playing rugby in colleges across the Carolinas, Georgia, and Tennessee including such collegiate power houses as Life University, Wheeling Jesuit and NC State. Union County teammates have earned college scholarships to play collegiate rugby. UC Lions have also made all the way to play for the USA National Teams.
