Connor St Clair to cap for EIRA

07.08.2016. Goff Rugby. The Eagle Impact Rugby Academy U16 team slated to tour British Columbia next week has been named.

The team includes players from 12 different states, as well as England. Among the players of note: Tyren Al-Jiboori is the third Al-Jiboori brother to play for a major touring select side. All three - Michael, Malon, and now Tyren - got their start at Union HS in Oklahoma.

Studying and playing at Reed Weybridge in England are Aidan and Shane Barry, brothers to UCLA standouts Niall and Cian Barry. Kaipono Kayoshi is a speedy, athletic No. 8/lock from Granite Bay who could be an interesting breakout player. Jupiter Sharks scrumhalf Kyle Lazera is an impressive halfback and another to watch.

The EIRA U16s will play the British Columbia U16s on Wednesday and Saturday on the University of British Columbia campus. EIRA U16s and BC played each other last year, with EIRA winning both games 34-0 and 53-6.

The Carolinas EIRA Academy is run by Brendan Keane and runs in the Fall.  The details for the upcoming Carolinas Camp will be posted on NCYRU.org, shortly.

18 June 2016.  Richmond, VA.  The Birds of Prey, a consolidated 7-a-side team made up of interested players from Phillip O Berry Academy, East Mecklenburg High School, West Mecklenburg High School and Rocky River High School, traveled Friday night to Richmond to compete in the 36th Annual Monk Vaughan 7's tournament at Dorey Park. MV7s kicks off the summer 7's season for the Birds of Prey; the full summer schedule is:  Monk Vaughan 7s (Richmond, VA; 18 Jun); Queen City 7s (Matthews, NC; 25 Jun); Cape Fear 7s (Wilmington, NC; 2-3 Jul); Cotton Town 7s Rugby Festival (Clayton, NC: 16 Jul); and Mid Night Sevens (Mint Hill, NC; 23 Jul).

The boys traveled to Richmond, on a short notice, a little light in numbers, and had a great couple workouts and then saw to enjoying a full day of Rugby 7s.

Not only did the boys get to play some Sevens, but they were able to bond with some of the VA sides, sharing training tips and working out together.  To any other 7s side in NC looking for a good event to kick off their 2017 Summer Season, this is an event worth the drive.

Stage one of the Bird's Nest Cup, has Rocky River at the top of the pool

12 Feb '16.  Rocky River Stadium.  After the dust settled and the players on the field went back to being brothers with the Cardinals of Berry Academy, the Score board burnt brighter for the Lads in Orange.

The Bird's Nest Cup was a Challenge Cup between the East Meck Eagles and the Rocky River Ravens.  This year, the Challenge Cup was opened up to include both the West Meck Hawks and Berry Academy Cardinals.  So far, in the Cup Challenge this year, Rocky River is 1-0, West Meck is 1-0, Berry is 0-1 and East Meck is 0-1.  Next Week, 19 February, Rocky River will face off against East Meck in the second stage of the Bird's Nest Challenge Cup, as Rocky River endeavours to retain the Bird's Nest Cup Trophy in its Trophy Case.

In addition to the Bird's Nest Cup Challenge, these four schools have combined their JV 7s side to field a JV Ruggerfest Team, the Birds of Prey and intend on putting in a competitive 7s side into several 7s events this coming Summer Sevens Season.
